Master March Madness: Strategies & Key Insights for Tournament Success

Table of Contents
Welcome to the second day of the 2025 men’s NCAA tournament! Today we are diving into today’s games only. For the first two rounds of the tournament, we will drop daily newsletters around 10AM. Strap in for 12 hours of basketball bliss, and let’s make some money!
🚨Yesterday’s Recap
Our featured wagers were 1-2 yesterday, but the analysis was spot on. We could talk about how the intended wager was for Montana to not cover the spread, but part of that WagerLens edge is actually choosing the correct bet. We’re keeping it simple today, targeting only spreads. Let’s make some money!
3/20: 1-2 (33%)
NCAA Tournament: 1-2 (33%)
💎 Today’s Featured Wagers
Quick note: Trends for today’s wagers should be ignored. The first round of the tournament features matchups between teams with the widest gaps in quality for the entire season. The L10 may show that a team has covered the spread once, but that is simply due to the prior games coming against evenly matched conference tournaments. We are working to improve this feature daily and welcome any feedback.
Maryland (4) vs Grand Canyon (13)
Maryland COVERS -10.5 (-105 on DraftKings)

Maryland comes into today’s game confident, having come a buzzer beater away from being in the Big Ten Tournament championship. They are among the most athletic and balanced teams in the nation, particularly due to their freshman phenom, Derik Queen. We expect Maryland to cover and hit their over. Grand Canyon is a respectable tournament team, but we do not see how they’ll find a way to score given that their 3-point shooting should not be feared and their interior offense can’t match up with Maryland’s big men.
Full disclosure: Today’s newsletter author is a longtime Maryland fan.
Risk factors
Maryland can be subject to streaky games, increasing volatility
Liberty (12) vs Oregon (5)
Liberty COVERS +7.5 (-115 BetMGM)

Liberty comes into today at the same quality tier as two teams who scored upsets yesterday - Drake and McNeese. They play against Oregon, a solid Big Ten team that is absolutely a vulnerable upset candidate. Oregon excels at nothing and does not enter the tourney with any momentum. We’re not necessarily predicting a Liberty upset, but history tells us to expect a close one.
Risk Factors
Overestimating LU’s capabilities as a mid-major
Robert Morris (15) vs Alabama (2)
Alabama COVERS -22.5 (-110 on DraftKings)

If you have watched Alabama play basketball at any point in the last 3 seasons, you know they have a propensity to absolutely destroy the spirit of their competition. Respectfully to the 15th seed Bryant, today will be no different. Bryant comes from the America East conference, which is usually dominated by the University of Vermont. AE teams rarely make a splash in the tournament (the exception being 2018 UMBC), and we do not anticipate the 149th ranked defense in the nation to have any prayer of standing up to Alabama’s 4th ranked offense. Bama loves to blow out their opponents, giving us a clear target.
Risk Factors
A blowout still may not reach a spread of this size
Margin of victory could shrink if game is immediately out of hand
🎯 Championship Contenders
We highlighted several teams in the primer who we feel are the best bets to win the championship. While we love a Cinderella, the odds of a seed above a 4 winning the title are exceedingly low. If we’ve made you some money, throw a few bucks on one of these teams!
Futures of title contenders (ESPN Bet odds):
Duke +290
Florida +335
Alabama +2000
Texas Tech +3300
Maryland +6000
