Sweet Sixteen: SEC Supremacy (3/27)

Master March Madness: Strategies & Key Insights for Tournament Success

Rounds 1-2 Recap

Welcome to the Sweet 16! We have seen mostly chalk to this point, with the highest seed to fall being #2 St. John’s to a surprisingly resilient Arkansas team in its first tournament with John Calipari at the helm. Wise bettors should keep an eye on Michigan State and Alabama, as both teams have not impressed to this point. WagerLens does not operate based on hunches, but we are keeping a close eye on lines for all of the #2 seeds.

Quick note: Recent game trends should be taken cautiously during the tournament. Opponent quality over the last 10 games varies wildly for nearly every opponent. We are working hard to accommodate our algorithms for March Madness volatility, but for now be sure to use a critical eye. Our analysis, however, is sharp as ever!

Duke (1) vs. Arizona (4)

Duke COVERS -9.5 (-108 on FanDuel)

We were hesitant to take Duke spreads in the first two rounds due to Cooper Flagg’s ankle issue and the variability of likely blowouts. Clearly, Flagg is fine and Duke looks to be the top team in the tournament. Arizona is a respectable squad who beat a solid Oregon group to make the Sweet Sixteen, but they are simply not up for this task. Duke’s previous sacrifice, Baylor, was also a respectable team from the Big 12. We feel strong about this game and recommend targeting Duke until they face another top seed.

Ole Miss (6) vs. Michigan State (2)

Ole Miss MONEYLINE (+150 on DraftKings - pictured) OR Ole Miss COVERS +3.5 (-105 on ESPN Bet)

These two wagers offer a fork in the road for our loyal subscribers: go bigger for the upset, or look safely to cover the spread. We feel that in this round, the SEC’s dominance will manifest. The remaining teams and bettors cannot be faint of heart at this point in the bracket, so you’ll have to call your shot. Regardless of your final choice, look for SEC teams facing Big Ten teams to perform well.

BYU (6) vs Alabama (2)

BYU OVER 85.5 Points (-110 on ESPN Bet and DraftKings)

In BYU’s first two tournament games, they have averaged 85.5 points exactly, making this a very fair line. However, Alabama sports an elite offense and mediocre defense, to put it mildly. Observers may notice that Bama gave up a cool 81 points to 15 seed Robert Morris in the first round, and that game was close throughout. Bama simply looks to score 100 points every game, and good luck keeping pace. This matchup has all the ingredients for a shootout, and we intend to target accordingly.

🎯 Championship Futures Update

We chose several championship contenders for futures bets before the tournament. Each of those teams are still alive, and we’re feeling good! Other than the obvious Duke and Florida, anyone who put a few dollars down on the others must be feeling pretty optimistic about their odds. If one of these teams takes the natty, remember WagerLens when you’re basking with your winnings!
